ANSWERS
Can I install the Storage Platform on a server running IIS?
The Storage Platform should never be installed on a server running IIS, as
the same ports are used by both applications.

The FileServer cannot process large backups...
If the FileServer aborts large backups (above 40,000 files) for no apparent
reason, ensure that there is enough free disk space available. If the FileServer
displays the message 'could not create file xxxxxxx' and the Backup Client
aborts with a communications error (connection reset by peer) then the file
system may be FAT32 instead of NTFS. FAT32 can only handle a certain amount
of files per directory.

to questions
How can an administrator send a message to a user?
The administrator of the Storage Platform can use the Storage Platform Console
to create a message that will be displayed in the Backup Client after account
creation (during the Setup Wizard) and after each backup. HTML format may be
used and note that is limited to 256 characters. This message is sent to all
users in a Group.

Monthly Archiving...
All backups are retained on the server for both the current month and the
month immediately preceding the current month. This means that a user can
always retrieve a specific version of a document or file that was backed
up either during the current month or during the preceding month.
During the first backup in a new month, the backups for the preceding month
are kept and the backups for the month before that are consolidated into
a single backup set. The Backup Service Provider determines how many of these
month-end consolidations are retained. The default is 1 month.
To give an example, if a user begins their backups during December, then
by the end of January, they can recover any specific backup version during
December and January. When they do their first backup in February, all the
backups for December are consolidated into a month-end backup set. Then during
February, they can access any backup taken during February and January, together
with the consolidated backup for December.
With the default setting to keep only 1 consolidated month-end backup, when
they do their first backup in March, the backups for January are consolidated
into a month-end backup set and the month-end backup for December is deleted.
The user can now access any backup taken during March and February, together
with the consolidated month-end backup for January.

More than one FileServer...
I have more than one FileServer. How do I decide on which FileServer new
users are created? When a user is added, the Name Server will always create
the account on the FileServer with the fewest users. This is currently
the only rule – you have to manually edit the database to change
this.

to questions
Anti-Virus Software?
Our Backup Professional server is currently storing data not related to
Backup. We need to load anti-virus software on the server to scan these
files. Anti-virus software will significantly decrease performance of the
server software. It will probably work, but much slower. It is of course
a pointless exercise for the anti-virus software to scan the backup data,
because it is encrypted. For this reason the backup server should only
be used for backups and nothing else. If you still want to do it this way,
try to exclude the backup data directories in the anti-virus software.
Or run the anti-virus software on another machine with only the relevant
data paths that needs scanning mapped (preferred option). That way you
keep the anti-virus software completely off the server and the backup data.

Windows Service Pack 4...
We need to load Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 on the Attix5 Backup Professional
Server. Do you know of any issues and whether it is safe to go ahead without
impacting Backup Professional on the server? No problem, you can install Service
Pack 4.
